Position: Boat Yard Foreperson/ Lift Operator
Location: Empire Marina Boat Yard
Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Salary: Competitive, Based on Experience

Empire Marina Boat Yard is a premier marina facility dedicated to providing high-quality maintenance and repair services for boats and yachts. We are currently seeking an experienced, highly motivated, and detail-oriented Boat Yard Foreperson/ Lift operator to join our dynamic team.

Position Overview

As a Boat Yard Foreperson, you will oversee and manage daily operations in the boat yard, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and safely. You will be responsible for supervising a skilled team of yard staff, coordinating maintenance and repair projects, and ensuring that customer satisfaction is consistently achieved. Your leadership will be key in maintaining the operational flow of the yard while adhering to safety standards and company policies.

Marine Straddle Carrier experience is essential. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervision & Team Management:

    • Lead and manage a team of boatyard technicians.

    • Assign tasks and oversee the progress of daily operations.

    • Train, mentor, and develop employees to improve their skills and ensure high-quality work.

    • Monitor employee performance and provide feedback, as necessary.

    • Ensure effective communication between team members and other departments.

  • Yard Operations & Maintenance:

    • Oversee the safe and efficient handling of boats and yachts, including lifting, launching, and positioning vessels in the yard.

    • Coordinate maintenance, cleaning, and repair projects, ensuring that they are completed on time and within budget.

    • Maintain equipment and machinery, ensuring that tools, cranes, forklifts, and other yard assets are in good working order.

    • Conduct regular safety inspections to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.

  • Customer Relations:

    • Serve as a point of contact for customers to address concerns or special requests regarding their vessels.

    • Collaborate with the service department to ensure timely updates and quality service delivery.

    • Ensure a clean, organised, and welcoming environment for customers.

  • Inventory & Ordering:

    • Monitor and manage the inventory of supplies and materials required for boat repairs and maintenance.

    • Work with the management team to order necessary parts, equipment, and tools as needed.

    • Maintain accurate records of inventory and equipment usage.

  • Safety & Compliance:

    • Ensure adherence to all health, safety, and environmental regulations, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

    • Enforce safety protocols for lifting, towing, and transporting vessels within the yard.

    • Conduct regular safety meetings and training sessions for the yard staff.

Qualifications

  • Experience:

    • A minimum of 5 years of experience working in a boat yard or marine environment, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.

    • Strong knowledge of boat maintenance, repair, and handling procedures.

    • Experience with marina equipment (cranes, forklifts, winches, etc.) and a valid driver’s license. Additional certifications (e.g., forklift operator, boat handling, etc.) are a plus.

    • Marine Straddle Carrier experience is essential.

  • Skills:

    • Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team.

    • Excellent communication and customer service skills.

    • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

    • Knowledge of safety practices and the ability to enforce safety regulations.

    • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

    • Basic understanding of boat maintenance systems and marine products.

  • Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 25 Kg ) and work in various weather conditions.

    • Ability to work on your feet for extended periods.

    • Comfortable working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
